“Connections” "Connexions"
This art visual project consists of pieces inspired in symbiotic connections, the interdependent and almost invisible ties that make the ecosystems.
I found my inspiration in my own relationship with nature and trees, in the harmonious relationship that traditional communities have with their environment and most of all, this project is based on the fascinating work of Suzanne Simard, University of British Columbia.
Her research scientifically reveals the connections between trees, their interdependence through fungi, their intricate networks, how they behave in an intelligent way, collaborating, competing, sending nutrients to each other, alerting on possible threats, and other behaviors which are typical to human social relationships.
A common element to her investigations and my artwork is the Mother Tree. Mother Trees are centre points of the forest ecosystems, that have developed the highest symbiotic connection ability with their environment and have established live and complex networks through mycorrhizae (fungi roots). Surprisingly, these networks are similar to the human nervous networks.
The intention of this project is to visually reveal the interrelations among trees and ultimately the interactions between trees and people.
